Elegant Banqueting Halls in Wiltshire
With the history of Wiltshire dating back to Stonehenge, the county offers a range of mansions, stately homes
& historic country houses.
Hence, the only problem in Wiltshire is narrowing down the choice of elegant banqueting halls to a small
selection.
So here's our choice of seven banqueting halls in the County that offer elegant surroundings
& historic architecture for banquets & wedding receptions:-
- Bowood House - set in the heart of Wiltshire, yet close to the M4, Bowood offers
a suite of function rooms, with capacity of up to 192. It is also licensed for civil weddings, making it
a popular venue for weddings & receptions. It is hidden away in a park of 2000 acres makes
it private venue for parties & banqueting.
- Castle Coombe - The elegant 14th century Manor House hotel describes itself as a
"country house with a difference". With a chapel just next door for weddings, this is a
popular luxury destination for weddings. For private parties it is possible to book exclusive
use of the hotel.
- Grittleton House - this quietly impressive Victorian manor seats up to 130 people
in its largest function room. Just five minutes drive from the M4, this is well placed for guests or
delegates to travel from Bristol & Swindon. Grittleton House is licensed for civil ceremonies and
offers lovely interior (with elegant staircase) and exterior grounds for wedding photographs.
- Longleat House - described as "the most august building in the kingdom" by
John Aubrey in the 16th century and "as high as the banqueting house at Whitehall".
- The Medieval Hall - situated just a short distance from Salisbury Cathedral, this
13th century medieval great hall is the genuine article, an original banqueting hall. With a real feeling
of history, you can imagine how a tudor banquet would have felt with it's wooden beams & minstrels
gallery.
- Old Wardour Castle - the romantic ruin inspired by a French chateau is the
location for many events, from outdoor Shakespeare productions to civil weddings. It's Pavilion
banqueting house, built for summer entertaining in 1773, caters for up to 60 guests, with views of
the lake from it's tall gothic-inspired windows.
- Salisbury Guildhall - built in 1795 and closed for refurbishment in 2010-11, the
banqueting room is the Guildhall's main function room . It has been described as "the finest room
in Salisbury" , certainly it is one of the most grand and imposing.
This is by no means meant to be a comprehensive list of banqueting rooms & halls in the county,
but represents the personal choice of Salisbury Venues.
